Project Overview

The problem:  People need an easier and more trustworthy way to collect urine samples to monitor their own health.

The solution: Loo, a daily urinalysis tracking device that connects to your existing toilet and sends results to your phone.

Research

In order to determine the behaviors of potential users, we started the project with a survey and 16 user interviews.

Survey goal: To discover health habits and the user's history with medical testing.

User Interview Goal: To understand adults' current preventative health habits, and what are the current ways in which adults track and monitor their health, and how they respond to healthcare problems.

View the entire user testing plan here.

Interview Insights:

+ Users reported feeling fairly confident about their own health and gave themselves an average of 8/10, with 10 being perfect health.

+ Most adults believe that tracking their health does improve their overall health. Some adults use a wearable or smart watch to notice trends, heart rate, and to improve self-motivation.

+ Users struggle with trust, cost, nerves, and overall prioritization of medical visits. Many users have had a negative experience.

Competitve Analysis

To gain a greater understanding of the current market, we completed a competitive analysis. We downloaded and analyzed health apps as well as researched current tools that are already in the market. Three competitors we chose are Toto, Vessel, and OutSense.

Persona

Using insights from our interviews and research, we created a persona that reflected our target user. Pat is interested in staying healthy and already feels confident in nutrition and physical habits. They are in touch with their body and health.

Ideation

We started the ideation phase with user insights and an infinity diagram where we found common ages, medical history, health tracking habits, diet and much more.

User Insight Statement: Part needs earlier detection of urinary infections that prevent emergency visits in order to spend less money on expensive doctors visits and improve overall prevention.

Problem Statement: We have observed that adults who want to track their health, struggle to develop a relationship and gain trust from medical professionals, which leads to a decrease in doctor visits and examination. How might we increase data collection frequency for adults in a way that doctors can validate and use to help correctly diagnose patients in a timely manner?

Low-Fi Wireframes

We created a set of very simple low-fidelity wireframes in order to focus strictly on the user experience. We tested these wireframes on 10 users.

We used Figma to create high-fidelity designs based off of our previous wireframes. Based on the feedback from our low-fi user testing, we made some usability changes, created a less confusing interface and enhanced the onboarding process.
